일라이는 26일 자신의 인스타그램을 통해 장문의 글을 게재하며 지연수와의 이혼 소식을 전했다.
그는 “아내와 난 헤어지기로 했다. 나는 현재 미국에 있고 마이클은 그의 엄마와 한국에서 살고 있다. 비록 지금은 마이클을 볼 수 없지만, 나는 가능한 한 그를 만나러 갈 것이고 그가 필요로 하는 아버지상이 되기 위해 최선을 다할 것”이라고 털어놨다.
이어 “앞날이 어떻게 될지 모르지만 마이클과 그의 엄마가 행복하길 기도한다”라며 “결국 이렇게 끝나서 죄송하다”고 덧붙였다.
일라이와 지연수는 11살 나이차를 극복하고 지난 2014년 혼인신고를 하고 2017년에 결혼식을 올렸다. 두 사람은 슬하 1남을 두고 있다.

Hey everyone. 2020 has been a rough year for all of us. I have some news I would like to share with all of you... My wife and I have decided to separate. I am currently in the US and Michael is living with his mom in Korea. Though I am unable to see Michael at the moment I will go to see him whenever I can and try my hardest to be the father figure that he needs. I don’t know what the future has in store but I pray that Michael and his mom will be happy.
